Slackers News - Dec 2009

By dave

Let me start out by saying...thanks for all the support we've received over the year. Its really been an incredible run of gigs for us. Starting out with new years in San Francisco through to our most recent european tour, we really appreciate how people have continued to be there for the band.

We have gotten love, so we want to get it back.

What else can I say? We are here.
We kept gigging. We kept putting out new music.

So as we get ready to finish out the year with a southern trip thru texas, louisiana, and florida followed by east coast dates in Brooklyn and Philly....I just want to say thank you again.

In terms of releases, we began the year with a live DVD, Live at Flamingo Cantina, our favorite watering hole in texas (www.interpunk.com)

We also began a series of downloads of live shows that we are gonna continue on whatevski (www.whatevski.org). So far we have up our boat show from 2009, and 2009 Slackfest at the bowery ballroom.

On the vinyl front, we have put out self medication & afternoon in dub on vinyl (www.interpunk.com) plus just in time for Purim we got out the much delayed 45 of 'dreidel, dreidel.'

On the album front, we put out "Lost & Found" on Special Potato. Lost & Found is a compilation album of lost tracks, rarities, and alternate versions of favorites that we lovingly restored, edited, and polished over the summer.

Its available for mail order on www.interpunk.com (USA/Canada), www.phonocaster.com (europe), and on DISK UNION in Japan. You can also download it at www.whatevski.org
We also have it at our merch table on tour of course. :)

We have also not just been dwelling on the past, but we have been making new music as well. Just a month ago, we spent 4 days in the studio in Berlin and we laid down the basics for 25 tracks that will be culled down to form a new slacker studio album that will be released on Hellcat in 2010. This will be our first Hellcat release in 4 years, so we are looking forward to it.

In terms of touring for the first half of 2010, we have plans for a dc-virginia-north carolina run for january, some east coast dates in febuary, japan in march, california/arizona in april, and europe in may.

So yeah. We got a lot to be thankful for and a lot to look forward to. Thank you all again. See you out there.

The Slackers - Lost & Found and more!

By dave

Hi everyone,

thanks for the support on the recent east coast gigs.

As we get ready for the next round of touring in canada and europe, I wanted to write to everyone about our latest release to be, "Lost & Found."

Lost & Found is a cd that I culled from our archives going back as far 1998. It includes rarities from back in the day, alternative versions of slacker's classics, and "new" songs that we just finished from basic rhythms that were not completed (it took 5 years for us to finish one of these tracks...that's slackin!)

So yeah, its a fun cd, new and old at the same time. But its all tracks that havent seen the light of day until right now! if you want to hear a blow by blow description of the tunes and hear a new mp3 go to www.myspace.com/theslackers

2009 Boat Show Recording Available and more new recordings to come

By dave

Hi,

so im happy to announce that we have a new recording available for download. Its of our most recent boat show in nyc, and it features guest performances by Happy of Sic n Mad and other friends.

Hopefully, this will be the first of several live recordings that will become available through www.whatevski.org. They have liner notes and everything. Check it out. If you want to hear what we've been doing lately or if you were at the boat show and want a souveneir.

In addition, to keep everyone up to date on the new Slackers stuff that we've been trying to finish.

Well, its not exactly "new", but it has been unfinished.

Over the years, we have recorded a lot of tracks that have never been released.
So the "Lost & Found" project (our working title) is gonna include tracks from 1998 to 2007 that never saw the light of day.

The Great Bi-Coastal Experience

By marcus

Greetings All. I am still fresh from the great outdoors and a really amazing trip to the Coasts of Canada. Vancouver has long been a favourite town of mine and I am happy to now add Halifax to the list. Although I have been substantially well compensated by the Canadian Tourist Board to promote visiting Canada (I got a $5 gift certificate to TIM HORTONS!) I am truly enamored by the beauty of the surroundings and by the really awesome people I have met there. So even if you are not planning on going to the Victoria Ska fest ...maybe you should. Or to Halifax, great party town and with Whale Watching to boot! See You all in September!!!!

Boat Show Stuff and request list

By marcus

Just to clear things up this years boat show is later than usual. You will need to be at the dock by 11 not 8. That is 11pm not 8pm. Personally this makes things easier for me so I am all about this "Midnite" cruise concept. I believe it is, after all, very romantic to cruise around Manhattan at midnight. Which brings me to this....I've been getting so many requests from folks that I thought "why not play all requests?" So let me know what you want to hear. Post your song choices here and we will try play them. More popular tunes will be democratically selected and the more obscure wont be, because we dont know how to play everything we ever did. Thats like 200 songs! By the way thats a good project, some body figure out a list of all the Slackers live and recorded songs and settle this dispute once and for all. Good luck with that one folks! See you all aboard!
ps Cali was great!great fun+food in SF,great cars in LA,great show in SD!
