Could you share some of those bootlegs Pembo?
Could you please share some of the bootlegs??
I really want to get my hands on some!!
Just let me know if you are willing to. :)
Precious Time
Hey Pembo, I think the Pretty Looks Isn't All song you're referring to is actually called Precious Time and is originally a Cornel Campbell song. I was at the Holiday Show in '04 when Alex Desert was one of the guests and they played it then.
Corazon de Oro
I remember you guys covering Rancids Corazon de Oro at the Thekla in Bristol in about 2003?
I went to the gig with no real prior knowledge of you guys and ended up skanking my little feet off and Vic held my hand during the song *swoon*. One of the greatest gigs I've ever been to and have been a massive fan ever since.
And if you get a chance, Scotland needs some of your sweet affections!
Thanks a lot for the good times guys X
Vic the Pietaster
Vic tickled the ivories on 3 or 4 Pietasters songs at the 9:30 Club when I crashed a bike off a pile of toilets 10 minutes before set time and he had to cover the organ until my concussion subsided enough to take over again :). The Slackers deserve partial cover credit for that, certainly. Also, are those real cities you guys are playing in this week or are you touring in Legoland? Lelystad? Dordrecht? Leeuwarden? Hope the show in Meepmoporkabork goes well, and if you run into a little peg-legged carpet peddler in Krangbangalangadingdong named Skippy please give him my regards.
Your pal,
Jon Darby
Lelystad, Dordrecht and
Lelystad, Dordrecht and Leeuwarden are real Dutch cities. In fact Dordrecht and Leeuwarden are quite old. Way older than those city in the States ;)
Nice invite
You are so sweet:
WHY THE FUCK WON'T YOU COME TO AUSTIN TEXAS???
You must be a native Texan:
THIS IS THE MUSIC CAPITOL OF THE WORLD!
You are so nice:
I GO TO ALL YOUR SHOWS BUT FUCK YOU IF YOU WON'T COME TO AUSTIN!
And don't even ask for much:
AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR!!!!
Come back to Chicago, we love you man! WE LOVE YOU!
Austin, TX

They just Were in Austin for two nights in a row.!! In Feb and they now have a LIVE DVD of them at the flamingo.. Where have you been if you live in Austin.. You TOTALLY missed out man.. TOTALLY missed out!! I think they are selling the DVD somewhere. Im sure they are at the flamingo!!
Yeah what he said...
What the hell man this guy is on to something. Its like you guys never even tour at all. If I was in your band I would totally go to Austin Texas, the greatest city since, well shit ever. Then I would put that shit on dvd if I was in your band. What a great idea but you wouldn't know cuz' you clearly don't like Austin.
Henry the Eighth was a good
Henry the Eighth was a good one. Vic can carry an English accent quite well.
Blue Hearts Covers
Linda Linda and Hito ni Yasashiku (人にやさしく) by the Blue Hearts.
Awesome covers - always send the crowds into a frenzy.
A couple more
I remember you guys doing "I Chase the Devil" by Max Romeo pretty regularly about 8 years ago.
You also have done "Always on My Mind" a bit recently.

What's up Marcus?
I've seen "Come on Sloopey" and some song by the Circle Jerks about Beverly Hills come out during the Fried Chicken song at a show in Toledo. And I think G-L-O-R-I-A at some point somewhere.
Clash
You played a Clash song in Aachen last year. I think it was London Calling. And Vic played The Entertainer for soundcheck once haha
I've seen "Ain't No Sunshine"
I've seen "Ain't No Sunshine" multiple times, and in October 2008 at the Middle East you played "Always On My Mind". Pretty recent examples but I figured they were worth mentioning.
And on the Slackers live in Tempe you play "Crisp Like Crackers" from the maybe to be released one day 'An Afternoon in Dub'. : )
Kraftwerk
Don't forget about your version of Kraftwerk's Autobahn you played in Regensburg 1,5 years ago :-)
C ya soon
Klaus
hmm
i swear i've heard Glen sing We can work it out... hamburg or copenhagen about a year ago? pretty sure there has been some other beatles covers as well.
the dreidel song, girl take it easy (pietasters),
some of the songs on BHS...
and cupid is awesome...
good call...
Damnit I knew I missed that one! Yeah they played that tune in Charleston, SC in '07 as well. Are we also counting all of the covers on "Upsettin' Ernesto's"?
fuzzy memories...
Hey Marcus,
At a show in Jacksonville in '03 you guys ended the evening with a wicked version of Rufus Thomas's "Walkin' The Dog" (which I later discovered you had recorded as "The Frog" for the "Skanarchy III" comp.) Going through my old setlists I saw that at a show at the now defunct Milk Bar in December '97 you began the show with a tune called "2 Blues in 1". Don't know if that was a cover or just a nickname for an intro or another song (kinda like "Fishin" used to say on the setlists for "Remember When"). Also played that night was "Calypso Jazz". Songs within songs I remember seeing were the "Hang On Sloopy/I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and Lebron Brothers codas to "Fried Chicken Song" and Q-Maxx busting into Rick James's "Superfreak" during the sorely underperformed Dub One (aka "Tales Of The Mongoose"). That's all I can remember at the moment.
The harder they come
I remember seeing Vic playing his Hammond doing a cover of the harder they come from Jimmy Clift. If I remember correctly he wasn’t with the slackers though, I think he was backing up Lars from rancid. Many years ago, maybe 96-97.
Tibetan Freedom Concert
You can find a great version of this performance on the "Tibetan Freedom Concert" 3-cd album. It was essentially Rancid with members of The Stubborn Allstars. The group was as follows: Tim Armstrong-vocals,guitar /Matt Freeman-bass,vocals /Lars Frederiksen-vocals,guitar /Brett Reed, drums /Vic Ruggiero-organ /Dave Hillyard-tenor sax /Jeff "King Django" Baker-trombone /Marq "Q-Maxx 420" Lyn & Paul "St. Edward" Parkins-backing vocals.
If you can track this down its a great recording. Vic's organ splashes are all over this thing and the horns are bright and clear. Date was NYC 06/08/97.
Wooly Bully
This is pretty recent so I'm sure you remember, but when you guys ended the show in Austin a few months back with Wooly Bully, it brought the house down! That was one hell of a cover that I hope you play more often.
I also remember seeing cool clips on YouTube of covers of "Give me a little sign" with Alex Desert and "Little Drummer Boy" with Simon Chardiet ... good stuff!
Enjoy Yourself
Just remembered a hazy memory of hearing you guys play "Enjoy Yourself" at the end of a set once ...
I saw you play Max Romeo,
I saw you play Max Romeo, "Chase The Devil" W/ Q-Maxx in Lawrence Ks on Halloween night. Fuckin Boss!
there was a night in buffalo
there was a night in buffalo last year that vic couldnt make and you guys played "The Fool" by The Rocksteady 7...maybe only considered a half cover but hey!
My memory is shaky...
I definitely remember the bands you covered, but I don't remember the specific songs. You once did a mini-Bay Area tribute during a set that included:
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Op Ivy - Sound System
Dead Kennedys
awesome cover
Hi Marcus,
PLEASE please please consider stepping back up to the mike and do "Take The Skinheads Bowling" next tour.I love that song, I listen to it often.
Also what you guys did with "Dead or Alive" was very cool and Marley's "Mellow Mood" was nice.
