Thanks to all of you who made it out to Slackfest #1. I had so much fun I'm hoping we'll make it a Hook tradition. Personally I was really into all the bands. I have a spot in my heart for Captain of Industry I think they are one of the most original and intriguing bands I've seen in years. Sonically they are pushing the envelope, but they don't hide behind the sounds they have real songs, Hell most bands have neither and these guys have only been at it 2 years! Downbeat Alley were great also, real rocksteady, the incomparable Eddie Ocampo on drums, fine songs well played, and no horns! What a novel concept? And then Les Sans Culottes were something new to me, but WOW what a cool band. Alot of Ramones a little Cramps and all French! Wicked! Oh, and they looked great doing it. Apparently The Slackers also played, but I didn't see them. But after a short break I thoroughly dug the Slavic Soul Party, I loved the way the wandered around the crowd playing acoustically, it was a very New Orleans Brass Band experience, but with Belly Dancing!?! Now for a particularly lucky few you may have caught me tending bar at the Hook during Slackfest, I make a demonic Red-headed Slut, and was generous to a fault with my mixing. I hope you were one of the lucky few who enjoyed the complete experience. I noticed some folks left a little shakier than when they walked in.
Hope to see you all at the Boat show Aug. 3. Those cruises are always out of control, as you might expect from 400 Slacker fans trapped on a boat for 3 hours with 2 sets of Slack to match the 2 Bars on board. No promise about me tending bar though.
