Once again we have to thank the thousands of fans across Europe who came out to support us on our most recent run. Once again a fabulous time was had by all. Did any one else notice we were doing a ton of encores? We played 2 almost every night and 3 at least thrice. Kudos to those who scream for more! Personally I had a total blast with the Aggrolites and thought the 4 shows we did together were among the best of the tour, those lucky few (haha) who were there to see any of those shows got one hell of a show. Of course those very few who saw me and Brian Dixon "discussing" politics in the street in front of SO36 in Berlin were treated to a comedy act that only a Socialist and a (log cabin?) Republican could create.
Yes finally after much deliberation Judge Glen Pine and I have determined the winner of the Slackers Design Our Merch Contest. Actually it turned out to be winners. Matt McCoy wins first place with his Jamaican flag inspired skull motif and second place goes to Wilson Cumberland for his nautically naughty piratess. Both stellar images will be seen on tour with the Slackers and potentially other outlets. The winners will receive the envy of their peers and the self satisfaction of a job well done, in addition to Slackers related goodies that would make the rest of you drool! Much thanks to the dozens of you that sent in entries most of them were very entertaining ( some disturbing?!), and we really appreciate your taking your time to think about the Slack. Cheers to you All!!!!
Due to the avalanche of requests and the apparent slackness of our artistic bretheren I am extending the deadline for the Slackers Design Our Merch contest one more week to Saturday July 8th. So please send any and all ideas, artworks, or what ever you got to slacker_bass@yahoo.com and we will check 'em out. Thank you all for your entries and interest. See all of you who can make it at the NYC Boat Cruise on Aug. 3rd that one will be a blast!
Thats right please hurry and get your designs entered before July 1 for the Slackers Design our T-shirts contest, so far we have had dozens of really cool ideas submitted and I'm looking forward to even more. Thanks to everyone who sent in an idea/design some of you are really talented, some should keep their day jobs, and some of you might want to consider consulting with a mental health practitioner. Nonetheless I am willing to check out anything, so please get your entry in soon. Oh and see you all at the boat show August 3rd, its always one of my favorite gigs. I get a kick out of seeing all the folks from out of town, people who have based vacations around this particular show. I find them particularly inspirational, particularly intense, I suppose I should admit that the intensely inspired drinking by our guests also makes them less particular, and both sides of the stage more entertaining. See you there!
Thanks to all of you who made it out to Slackfest #1. I had so much fun I'm hoping we'll make it a Hook tradition. Personally I was really into all the bands. I have a spot in my heart for Captain of Industry I think they are one of the most original and intriguing bands I've seen in years. Sonically they are pushing the envelope, but they don't hide behind the sounds they have real songs, Hell most bands have neither and these guys have only been at it 2 years! Downbeat Alley were great also, real rocksteady, the incomparable Eddie Ocampo on drums, fine songs well played, and no horns! What a novel concept? And then Les Sans Culottes were something new to me, but WOW what a cool band. Alot of Ramones a little Cramps and all French! Wicked! Oh, and they looked great doing it. Apparently The Slackers also played, but I didn't see them. But after a short break I thoroughly dug the Slavic Soul Party, I loved the way the wandered around the crowd playing acoustically, it was a very New Orleans Brass Band experience, but with Belly Dancing!?! Now for a particularly lucky few you may have caught me tending bar at the Hook during Slackfest, I make a demonic Red-headed Slut, and was generous to a fault with my mixing. I hope you were one of the lucky few who enjoyed the complete experience. I noticed some folks left a little shakier than when they walked in.
